Thinking about Upgrading Your Flooring?

?Flooring trends in 2022 are much different than 20 or more years ago and so are your options! There has been a noticeable shift away from wall to wall carpeting to solid surface flooring. While some of the reasons the trend has moved away from carpet has been design lead, a large part is due to studies which indicate that carpet can have an impact on your health as it traps pollutants and allergens and more which can contribute to an increase in asthma and allergy attacks. Even the Lung Association recommends looking for low emission products and using water-based adhesives along with regular and proper cleaning of soft surface flooring. Area rugs may be a solution if you want a soft and warm surface to walk on, they can also be sent out for proper cleaning from time to time, and they can be the perfect choice to tie a design together!

Current trends include the use of hardwood, engineered hardwood, high quality laminates, tile and luxury vinyl flooring which can give the look of wood but is warmer under foot. Designers are often recommending having one continuous surface especially in the main floor of a home to give a feeling of a larger and cohesive space. Tile is always a good choice in a bathroom and is often being used to make a statement or stand out as a design element with the use of bold patterned tiles that are popular today. More neutral choices for large areas of flooring are worth considering especially if you have any plans on moving in the future, neutral flooring will appeal to a larger number of prospective buyers.

Whether you have a good idea of what you would like to do or you are not really sure, figure out your budget and talk to a flooring professional who can help you decide what will work best for you and your home. They should be asking you questions about the level of foot traffic in the area, do you have pets, etc. Even if you plan to install it yourself, some professional advice and thorough research is recommended. Don't underestimate the value of updating some flooring before listing your house for sale - it might be a good idea to consult with a REALTOR® from our team about what amount of return you could potentially make on your investment in the current real estate market.

There is so much to consider when upgrading your flooring - budget, use of the area, health concerns, potential impact on the resale of your home, your personal preferences and more. Take the time to do your research so that you make an informed decision.
